What about SSL VPNs?

Common usage of the term is not a VPN.

Build one yourself:
Squid/Apache for browsing internal websites
Can employ HTTP authentication or SSL certs
smb2www for Samba networking
webmail for email access
SSH or SSL tunnels for direct access
MySQL, SMTP, etc
