PPTPv1 has too many problems to list.  Don't use it.

PPTPv2 

Fallback to older MS-CHAPv1 protocols enabled by default
MS-CHAPv1 uses week hashing

Password is used to generate encryption key
Security of connection is based on the client password
128 bit security would require ~100 character password
