Now that we know both babies are girls, the time has come to decide upon names for them. I spent several of my more coherent days in the hospital looking through baby name books and coming up with potential names for the babies. With Brian's help, we've now reduced the number of potential names to 30. And as we did with Reegen, we are now giving folks a chance to vote for their favorites (or to write in another suggestion if they find all of our finalists unpalatable). We make no promises whatsoever to pick the names that garner the most votes, but if everyone loves or hates a particular name, that may influence our final decisions.
For those of you unfamiliar with the latest research on twin development, all of the books we've read, as well as the parents of twins whom we've met via the North Seattle Families of Multiples Club, agree that giving twins sound alike or spelled alike names is a very bad idea, as apparently it causes difficulties with the kids. development as individuals. Thus, we want two names that do NOT sound alike and do NOT start with the same letter. We also don't want a name that sounds like 'Reegen,' but we think we've already weeded those out.
So, please take a look at the names below and vote for the two you prefer. If you are a traditionalist where names are concerned and prefer names such as Lisa, Elizabeth, Rachel, Sarah or Kathy, you will probably hate all of our choices below. In which case, please feel free to do as one person did when we were deciding upon a name for Reegen and write in "I can't vote for any of these names, how about Molly Bree instead?" Of course, we did not name Reegen "Molly Bree" so your write-in suggestion may well go unheeded, but at least you can be confident that we won't be offended by your rejection of our finalists.
